So I thought I would throw my hat in the ring and give this blogging thing a try. I have to admit it seems very daunting and I’m not quite sure I have what it takes, so bare with me as we give it a go.
I feel it is only appropriate that I give some background on who I am and what you might get out of reading this blog.
My name is Jen. I am a military kid (army brat to be exact) and I have lived in Indiana, Geogia, Minnesota, and Germany. I have had as many hardships as I have had blessings and I have learned to see the best in almost any circumstance. I am happily married (we just celebrated our 10 year anniversary) and have 2 kids: Lilly age 5 and Nathan age 3. My husband owns his own company and I am his on-call volunteer, while I stay at home with the kids.
I love to DO!! I suffer from a very addictive personality and I tend to go overboard on what ever project I take on. For example: January of 2010 I could not run a mile. What can I say college, marriage, life, and two kids later – I was out of shape! So I decided to do a Triathlon. Yes, that is right a Triathlon. A full distance Triathlon to be exact. What is that you might ask. It begins with a .9 mile swim, moves to a 26 mile bike ride, and finishes with a brutal 6.2 mile run. Now you can see why I feel the need to capitalize the word Triathlon – it deserves it. Now that you know what it is, the next logical question is why??? Short answer – to full fill a promise to a friend. Perhaps I will get into the long answer in another post. After all this is a blog, not a book. Well, I began to train, starting with running. I used the couch to 5k program, which you can find here www.c25k.com. This is an amazing program and I HIGHLY recommend it. I trained for the bike portion by going to spin classes at the gym and taught myself how to freestyle swim from watching youtube clips. I should add that this is not the typical way to train for a Triathlon and not the recommended way either, but I am a big believer in “do what works for you”. The end result…on August 28th, 2010 I finished my first Triathlon in 3 hours and 33 min.
So what can you expect this blog to be about? Honestly, a lot of things. It will be about my interests. On any given day it could be about food (I enjoy cooking, but I love to eat!), crafts, projects (I just finished a restoring a table), my garden, my kids, rantings, blessings, travels, God, gardening, my animals (I have a German Shepard mutt, two horses, and a barn cat)…. the list could go on and I guess you will have to check back to see what I’m up to next.
To be honest I hope that my life and experiments will spark something in you. We only get to live this life once and I want to see and experience as much of it as I can.
What about you?
